Hi, friends! I’m planning on writing more about this later, but I believe that if a person puts positive vibes out into the universe, then positive vibes are sure to find that person later on (similar to manifestation). I have been thinking about this concept for months now and decided that if I was going to make 2020 one of the best years, then I needed to ring in the New Year the best way I could.
One of my girlfriends decided to host a Roaring ‘20s themed New Year’s Eve party, so I decided that I would put on my sparkly dress, grab a feather headband, and party into the New Year with her! I brought one of my best friends as my date and we made a night for ourselves! It wasn’t a huge house party and we didn’t go out to a bar or night club, but I wouldn’t have wanted to share the night with anyone else.
I know a lot of people went along with the Roaring ’20s theme, but I am so proud of how the final decorations came together! I think half the fun of getting ready for a party is the total chaos that is putting up the decorations and preparing the food. We had sandwich sliders, meatballs, chips&guac, a charcuterie board, and my personal favorite – buffalo chicken dip! I helped my friend Emily with the finishing touches, never-mind the small but many mental breakdowns we had at 2 a.m. the day of NYE. BUT it was all worth it when we popped our bottles of champagne at midnight! For my outfit, it wasn’t necesarily something out of the ’20s, but it was definitely a steal! I found this BCBG dress at TJMaxx for only $12, my shoes are from a local department store, and my friend Trevor found our ‘Happy New Year!’ handbands at Hobby Lobby! (our headbands had a feather on the top, so I tried to pass that off as my party themed piece.) That’s what I like to call ballin’ on a budget!!
I don’t usually make New Years Resolutions, because I feel like there’s almost this added pressure to the resolution when it’s the “New Year’s Resolution.” ~ make sure you put a lot of empahsis on the bolded words and then you’ll get what I’m saying ~ I feel like making attainable goals are more realistic and not as drastic. In my last blog post, I mentioned that I was trying to read before bed as a way to decrease my screen time and make small lifestyle changes that would benefit me in the long run. I think that’s the mindset I’m trying to have going further into 2020. I don’t want to go on a crazy health kick that makes me hangry or cut myself off from somthing “cold turkey,” because it’s my “New Year’s Resolution” (don’t forget the sarcastic emphasis). So, no diets or crazy workout regiments for this chick, but my goal is to live a healthier lifestyle all around.
Healthy Lifestyle Goals
- Read more Memoirs and Lifestyle books
As a Christmas gift to myself, I bought a few books to have as my starting point for the new year. As an Enligh major, I normally read a lot of fiction, but I love the idea of reading about someone’s life journey. I just finished Jordan Christy’s book, How to Be a Hepburn in a Kardashian World: The Art of Living with Style, Class, and Grace. I would definitely suggest this book to any young lady that is interested in hearing stories and tips from women that have gone through the rollarcoaster of life. Remember, always be classy as heck! My current read is written by my TV mom, Lauren Graham. If you’re not familar, she plays Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. Her autobiography, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (And Everything in Between), does a great job of describing the hardwork she put into her career to get where she is today. I find that I get extremely inspired and motivated after reading memoirs and autobiographies written by people that I look up to. My next autobiography on deck is by Julie Andrews, Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years… Updates to come!
- Buy the Shoes & Earrings
My goal for 2020 is to explore my taste in fashion and treat myself to accessories that can help build up any outfit (this means that I might have to budget better & not go to Chick-Fil-A as often as I do). A lot of fashion bloggers and YouTubers that I follow buy simple or “staple” clothing pieces that can be interchanged outfit to outfit, and then splurge on accessories. They splurge on things like jackets, purses, shoes, jewelry, hats, etc. I’m easing into this, so I started out small with buying a new pair of earrings. I found these cute pearl hoops from J.Crew and I can’t wait to pair them with a turtle neck or a simple black dress. I always see this quote on Pinterest that says, “Life is short, buy the shoes!” As a college student I have to be realistic about money, but I’m not going to hold myself back from treating myself to a new pair of shoes or my all-time favotire accessory, purses!! I also realize that material things don’t provide true happiness, but who doesn’t like getting a package from UPS!? It’s like Christmas, but all the time. Somestimes getting something new can lift your spirits, similar to a holiday coffee from Starbucks.
- Drink More Water
I think this goal is pretty self-explanatory, but drinking water is so important for your overall health and wellness. It can improve your skin and help with cravings or a feeling of hungry throughout the day. I might have to balance out my 2-3 cups of coffee a day with a few glasses of water.
- Write More
I love the idea of starting fresh for the new year; I normally start fresh with buying a new planner and a pack of pens to color coordinate my life for the next couple months, but to each their own! This year, I swtiched up my normal routine and went with a Day Designer for Blue Sky, rather than a planner from Emily Ley. I’m still completely in love with my organizational stuff from Emily Ley, but decided to try a new layout for this year (really spice it up). Whether it’s keeping an updated planner or journaling daily, I think writing is an important way to keep your mind active and make time for yourself. I use a planner everyday and I always seem to turn notebooks into journals or turn the sides of my papers into doodling spots if lecture is boring during class. I know for me personally, I like to see everything written out so I can make sure I have enough time in the day to be productive, be social, and be self aware of how I’m doing.
Lastly, I just want to say thank you to the friends that I have taken into the New Year with me. This is the year of my college graduation and then life post grad, whatever that ends up looking like for me. I’m excited for 2020 and allll the new blog posts to come!
